Seeing through new lens may provide opportunities to view things from a closer or farther perspective. New angles allows us to perceive life in a more meaningful way.
My grandma inspires me to work hard in order to make a meaningful contribution to society. This picture represents my grandma's determination to master her craft in singing. She believes in her entire career, performing for charity events is the most rewarding because it creates a positive impact and outcome for others.
Studying finance and being a finance teaching assistant at UBC taught me the importance of financial literacy. This year, I started a social venture in hopes that it would bring financial equality and wellbeing to Canadians one day. UBC noticed my passion project and I received offers from professors to assist in developing the social venture. In order to learn more about entrepreneurship, I applied for and was selected to be part of the Venture for Canada program.
Angel taught me to live presently and enjoy the small things in life. Although we go exploring often, she is excited to see the grass and sunset every time.
Hiking and camping are popular summer activities. Although hiking is one of my favorite activity, I was not too certain about camping because I am afraid of encountering a bear. I thought that life is too short to be fearful, so I decided to go and enjoy a camping experience this summer.
Every morning, I made a habit to write down three things that I am grateful for as soon as I wake up. This allows me to think positively and be ready even if a storm hits!
During school, I worked part-time as a swimming instructor and lifeguard. One of my favourite activities is volunteering for the Swim Autism program. When the children are proud of their progress and become excited, their smile lightens up my day :D
Life may get busy but it's important to make time for recharging your batteries! At school, sometimes I would be too focused on studying or organizing club activities that I forget to eat lunch. After one incident, I learned that it is very important to take care of yourself to go the extra mile.
In this picture, you may spot my brother eating a leggo piece. All of us had a random craving when we were toddlers. To my mother's surprise, I craved cheerios dipped in vaseline.
With a family of 6, it could be difficult to find a time when we are all available. This makes it even more precious to be able to spend time together. However, taking a great picture of all of us looking at the camera is even more challenging! This photo was taken 4 years ago when we looked at the camera with perfect timing.
Growing up, I watched the MCVP every year with my parents. Prior to joining, I did not realize the amount of effort and dedication put into creating a great show. Currently, I am working full-time while partaking in MCVP. Although some nights I need to stay up to practice, I am very grateful for this journey. The various learning opportunities provided by the MCVP have allowed all of us to grow and develop. Finally, I also learned the meaning behind 台上三分钟, 台下十年功. I hope my efforts will show through at the final!
After graduating, I was looking forward to traveling. Since traveling was discouraged due to the pandemic, I took this as an opportunity to explore BC. Last year, I took a summer course on wine tasting. It was eye-opening to gain first-hand experience and observe how vineyards are maintained during the peak seasons in Kelowna.
Hello everyone, I am Katie Hung, 孔詠琪, #6! I am excited about the new journey of joining the MCVP after graduating from UBC Sauder School of Business. My studies may have ended, but closing one chapter will create an opportunity for a new beginning! As Marcel ProustBack once said, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes”. To be able to see in a different light will allow us to take a step back and further enhance our understanding of the world. Having focused mostly on my academics and sports before, I am thrilled to gain a new perspective by joining MCVP.
